Chelsea Gibson - Painter
I have been fascinated and bewildered by people throughout my 30 years as a painter. Personhood is so hard, but occasionally we are lucky enough to understand what a beautiful and miraculous gift each one of us has. The search to understand and be okay with people and personal experience is the focus of my work. Painting is the means to understand and communicate that search.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
2018 GOLDEN Artist Colors, Instructor for “Painting Class for Art Educators”
High school and Middle School Art Teachers from 50 miles around the area of New Berlin, NY came to the Golden Factory and teaching studio for oil painting lessons using Williamsburg oil colors. The art teachers were between the ages of 25-65, and had a wide range of interests and experience. We began the semester with still-life, drawing and collage, figure painting from nude model, and moved on to working on personal projects. Focus on oil painting technique, color mixing and observational skills.
2011-12 University of North Alabama, Adjunct Art Faculty
2D Design, Drawing
College classes in 2D Design and Drawing focused on principles of observation and foundations of visual art. Built large-scale still life installations for observational drawing in charcoal, ink, and graphite.
2010 Boston University, Assistant Professor, Undergraduate Painting
Still-Life, Figure, and Portrait Painting in Oil and Acrylic for Undergraduates.
2003-06 Rhode Island School of Design, Assistant Professor, Winter Session Drawing Marathon
Still-Life, Figure, and Interior Drawing class based on my personal education at the New York Studio School. Helped develop and teach first Drawing Marathons at RISD, which continues to be one of RISD’s most popular Winter Session classes today. Focus was on Large-Scale charcoal and ink drawings on paper. Built Large-Scale Still Lives for observational drawing, incorporating human models and objects found or borrowed from the RISD Nature Lab.
